Landscapes are one of the long-time subjects for artists taking in the beauty of their surroundings and representing what they see. But how has it changed in recent times? What new connections to our surroundings will be found or lost?
The landscapes around us are dramatically changing as well as our relation to nature. Furthermore, will we see landscapes as mere replications or photographs or can we apply color, light, design and texture to represent the larger essence of what we see or experience.
Just as impressionism, then cubism radically changed our perception of landscape art, what new interpretations are present today? We would like to see large as well as small formats. Broad strokes, fresh outlooks, meaningful dialogs, colorful blends or a monochromatic study... What's on the horizon for new landscape work?

Eligibility
The “New Horizons: Landscapes” competition is open to artists who are at least 18 years old (by the time of entry) submitting original works of art created within the past 3 years.
Each artist may enter up to 5 artworks.
The competition welcomes all media, including painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, printmaking, textiles, and digital art.
Artworks must be created within the past 3 years; any artworks completed before January 9, 2020 will bedisqualified.
The enclosed entry/entries must be original work, independently created, composed and executed. Artwork that originate from a workshop or a class under the direction of a teacher or instructor are not eligible.
No copies from other artists' works or paintings/drawings from other artists' photographs or from published material will be allowed. Source material must be original.
For artworks based on reference photographs, eligibility requires that the artists must have taken the photographs (artwork must be created on your own photography). Compositions based on published material or other artists’ work are NOT considered original and are not eligible.
Artwork that previously exhibited at the 3 Square Art Gallery are NOT eligible to submit.
3SA Juror Members are not eligible to enter.
Artist who has withdrawn accepted artwork/artworks in any previous exhibitions are not eligible to enter.
All entries must be submitted electronically through the online submission page HERE, which opens November 5, 2022 and closes Monday, January 9, 2023, at midnight MOUNTAIN TIME (Denver, CO).
There is a nonrefundable entry fee of $42 for 1-3 artworks, $48 for 4 artworks, or $54 for 5 artworks.

Lynn Thorpe - Biography
I grew up in a small Wyoming town on the edge of the Black Hills. University studies took me to the University of Washington in Seattle (BA 1968); to the Canberra School of Art, Canberra, A.C.T. Australia (1975-1977); and the University of Wyoming, Laramie, WY (2nd BA and MFA 1983). Non-toxic Printmaking studies took me to the Canadian institute of Non-Toxic Printmaking in 1994 and 1997.
I have worked in a number of capacities from baking in restaurants, to selling art supplies (Australia), to running a printing press(Canada), and to academic positions in the US. While on the faculty of Northwest College in Powell,WY, from 1984 to 2004, I taught courses in Design 2D, Color Theory, Printmaking, Drawing and Painting. At Black Hills State University, Spearfish,SD, I taught Drawing, Design2D, and Art History as an adjunct faculty, 2005-2011.
I have been listed a number of times in Who's Who Among America's Teachers; and received a NISOD nomination for outstanding teaching in 2004. I note these honors, as teaching was a very nerve-wracking and exceptionally rewarding activity for me. Watching students grow and become themselves has been a true privilege.
My work is held in a number of collections throughout the country, including the Wyoming Governor's collection; the University of Wyoming Art Museum; the South Dakota Governor's collection; the South Dakota State Art Museum collection; the Dahl Art Center, Rapid City, SD; the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City; the Rapid City Regional Airport, and the headquarters of Raven Industries of Sioux Falls, SD; and The Brinton Museum, Big Horn Wyoming.
After 5 years in Billings , MT, where I was part of a wonderful women's art group, 604; volunteered at The Yellowstone Arts Center; and explored the landscape of the Rims, I now have a home/studio in Rapid City, South Dakota, where I paint full time; volunteer at The Dahl; and get out of town to visit family, grandchildren, and friends.
