Figure That!: 4th Annual Juried Exhibition. The human figure has intrigued and inspired artists to paint beautiful and provocative images through the centuries. Artists use the figure for training purposes, creating an image of an important individual, for abstract and well as realistic imagery, for social commentary, design and more. Go figure that artists have found ways to portray the human body is nearly every possible way imaginable. Can you figure something that has never been tried before or will you utilize traditional methods? We want to see your best figurative work so Figure That out! Find a new take on the human figure.

Eligibility

Figure That!: 4th Annual Juried Exhibition is open to artists who are at least 18 years old (by the time ofentry) and submitting original works of art created within the past 3 years.

  • Each artist may enter up to 5 artworks.

  • The competition welcomes all media, including painting, drawing, mixed media, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, photography, digital art, and textiles (No reproduction prints). Note size restrictions in Rules for Entry.

  • All artworks must be original. You warrant that your entry is your original work, which your entry does not infringe the rights of any third party, and that you have all the rights necessary to submit the entry. No copies from other artists' works or paintings/drawings from other artists' photographs or from published material will be allowed. Source material must be original-- For artworks based on reference photographs, eligibility requires that the artists must have taken their own reference photographs (artwork must be created on your own photography). Compositions based on published material or other artists’ work are NOT considered original and are not eligible.

  • The enclosed entry/entries must be independently created, composed and executed. Artwork that originate from a workshop or a class under the direction of a teacher or instructor are not eligible.

  • Artworks must be recent that created within the past 3 years; any artworks completed before June 19, 2018 will be disqualified.

  • Artwork that were previously exhibited at 3 Square Art Gallery are NOT eligible to submit.

  • Artist who has withdrawn accepted artwork/artworks in any previous exhibitions are not eligible to enter.

  • The competition is open to all artists who are at least 18 years old (by the time of entry).

  • All entries must be submitted electronically through the online submission page, which opens March 23, 2021 and closes June 30, 2021, at 11:59 pm midnight MOUNTAIN TIME (Denver, CO).

  • There is a nonrefundable entry fee of $39 for 1-3 artworks, $45 for 4 artworks, or $51 for 5 artworks.

  • Please review all ENTRY GUIDELINES & SUBMISSION AGREEMENT before submitting.

Kumiko is an award-winning artist creating large oil paintings of Japanese-themed historical subjects as well as extremely detailed portrait drawings in large scale format revealing the true spirit of her subjects. She started formal Atelier-style academic training at the Koriyama Kaisei Gakuen Art School in Japan where she learned classical drawing and painting skills. She received a BFA from the University of Wyoming and has received prestigious awards in National and International Competitions and Juried Exhibitions including 1st Place Award four times.

Amanda Gress is a contemporary figurative artist working in Colorado. She received a BFA in 2005 and MFA in 2008 from Laguna College of Art and Design in California. Her classical training in both drawing and painting are rooted in historical techniques covering several mediums.
